CEAC Early Career Researcher Award
The Centre for EU-Asia Connectivity (CEAC) invites early career researchers to submit an original research work, M.A. thesis, for consideration for the annual CEAC Early Career Researcher Award.
Purpose of the Award
The CEAC Early Career Researcher Award is designed to recognise the exceptional achievements and academic excellence of graduate students who have demonstrated remarkable research capabilities in their M.A. theses.
The award aims to stimulate and encourage new research work in social sciences by early-career researchers that also contributes meaningfully to examine the dynamics of EU-Asia relations and advance the understanding of EU-Asia connectivity, with a special focus on Europe, East Asia, and Indo-Pacific. The selected M.A. theses also demonstrate innovative and critical thinking in important area of study. The purpose of the award is to promote early researchers’ careers.
Award Details
Those selected will be given the opportunity to collaborate with Prof. Bersick and Mrs. Paulo on a co-authored publication. It will be published as an open-source on the CEAC website and social media platforms and distributed within CEAC’s network and RUB library, providing visibility and scholarly engagement for the awardees.
Each year, 1 or 2 M.A. students will be selected as recipients of the CEAC Early Career Researcher Award (CEACRA).
During the process of drafting process, awarded researchers will have the opportunity to receive additional guidance from senior researchers.
The winners will be formally announced during a special award ceremony held annually in February.
Encouraging Future Researchers
This initiative also serves to inspire current and future students to contribute to the growing body of research in EU-Asia relations. We encourage all eligible graduate students to apply for this award and join a distinguished network of researchers advancing the field of EU-Asia connectivity.
Application Process, Eligibility, and Submission Guidelines
We are pleased to invite eligible graduate students to apply for the CEAC Early Career Researcher Award. Below are the details for the application process, eligibility, and submission guidelines.
Eligibility
To qualify for the Award, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a graduate student or have recently completed a Master’s programme in the last academic year.
- Submit a M.A. thesis with an outstanding result (e.g., 1,0 in the German system)
- The thesis must deal with EU-Asia relations.
- Written language: English.
- Students from Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) and other universities in Europe, Asia, and beyond are strongly encouraged to apply, provided their research aligns with the above criteria.
Application Process
Applications can be submitted at any time of the year. Submissions will be reviewed annually from November to January, and winners will be announced in February.
To apply:
- Prepare the following documents in a single PDF file:
- Your original M.A. thesis.
- The official result of the grade of the thesis issued by the university where the degree was completed.
- An authorship statement, signed and dated by the applicant, must confirm that the submitted thesis is the author’s original work, and complies with ethical and acadamedic research standards and ensures the ethical use of AI technologies.
- A 1-2-page CV, highlighting your academic and/or professional background.
- A 1-page motivation letter explaining why you would like to participate in this award, how your research aligns with EU-Asia connectivity, and the potential impact of your work.
