After over two years of virtual meetings, our alumni finally met in person at the Faculty of East Asian Studies (OAW), in the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) campus, for their first annual CEAC Alumni Reunion on Tuesday, 6 December.

This first alumni gathering offered students an opportunity to share experiences, identify new learning opportunities, and share knowledge about their study and future career path.

Our internship programme kicked off in September 2020. Since then, a total of 15 students from different countries have taken part in the internship programme. CEAC Talent offers internship opportunities for RUB students but also welcomes talented international students in a dynamic and international working environment (learn more). CEAC Talent fosters international exchange as a way to broaden the horizons and cultural understanding of every intern participating in this programme.

The reunion started with the welcome words by Ms Mireia Paulo, responsible of the internship programme, following an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Bersick, Executive Director of CEAC (Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence), Jean Monnet Chair, and Head of Department, International Political Economy of East Asia at OAW. Prof. Bersick mentioned: “After two exceptionally challenging years, we are delighted to welcome in person CEAC alumni for what promises to be an exciting afternoon of celebration and connection. Gathering to reunite with classmates, peers, and researchers is an important part of CEAC’s spirit, reflecting the deep sense of community, particularly in these times where the world seems to be less connected and more fragmented.”

The community gathered to personally meet each other in a relaxed, enjoyable, and fun networking session. Alumni wrapped up this year’s reunion with a lively discussion. Channeling their CEAC spirit, alumni discussed how to stay connected and engaged within the CEAC community and how to take the alumni network to the next level.
