Prof. Dr. Ummu Salma Bava is Professor at the Centre for European Studies, SIS, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India since 2016 and holds the Jean Monnet Chair for “The EU, Security and Peace and Conflict Resolution”. She was Director and Chairperson of the Centre for European Studies (2011-2013). She also worked as a guest faculty at the Foreign Service Institute, Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. With three decades of experience in teaching and research, she is one of the leading Indian experts on the European Union, India, and German foreign and security policy. Her other focus areas are regional integration and organisation, emerging powers, international politics, global governance, norms, peace and conflict studies, and higher education. She has published extensively and is a Member of the Research Advisory Council of Germany’s leading think tank Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), Berlin, and Member of the Academic Advisory Board of the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA), Hamburg, Germany. Prof. Bava was conferred in January 2012 with the prestigious Order of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz) by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany for her contributions to binational relations. Prof. Bava was part of the EU-funded FP7 Marie Curie ITN Network, led by the University of Hamburg. Her latest articles are published in “Does South Asia Exist? Prospects for Regional Integration” (Washington DC, Brookings, 2010).
