On July 15, the Centre for EU-Asia Connectivity (CEAC) at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) hosted an event titled “Shanghai Meets Bochum.” This event welcomed students and faculty members from Tongji University’s School of Political Science and International Relations and the Faculty of East Asian Studies for a full day of career-oriented activities.

The day began with opening remarks by  Prof. Sebastian Bersick and Prof. Jörn-Carsten Gottwald, followed by a series of presentations. Prof. Bersick presented on CEAC and Prof. Gottwald introduced the M.A. Study Programme in International Political Economy of East Asia (IPEEA). The session continued with Dr. Christiane Wüllner, Managing Director of RUB Research School, and Dr. Ursula Justus, Advisor for doctoral researchers and postdocs at RUB Research School. They discussed the support schemes available for Ph.D. and postdoctoral researchers at RUB and Research Academy Ruhr, offering valuable insights into academic opportunities.

Participants also visited the WorldFactory Start-up Center, where they learned about initiatives promoting university-originated start-ups and the transfer of innovations from science to business. Ms. Meike Schaich, responsible for WorldFactory International, delivered a presentation on WorldFactory’s activities. Mr. Kissenbeck conducted a guided tour of the RUB Makerspace, showcasing the resources available to RUB students.
