Renowned Economist Professor Bahri Yilmaz Joins Our Team

We are delighted to announce the distinguished addition of Professor Bahri Yilmaz to CEAC’s team as an affiliate researcher.

Professor Yilmaz contributes to a wide-ranging knowledge and expertise in the field of the EU Studies, Economics, and EU-Asia relations strengthening CEAC’s commitment to academic excellence. He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from Bonn University, Germany, showcasing his dedication to rigorous academic pursuits. He also holds the esteemed title of EU Ad Personam Jean Monnet Professor and Emeritus Professor in Economics at Sabanci University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. His extensive academic journey has seen him lecture at prestigious institutions such as the Universities of Hacettepe, Ankara, Koç, Bilkent, Turkish-German Universities (TDU), Münster Westfalen, LMU München, CEU Madrid, and the University of Bangkok. Furthermore, his global reach as a scholar is reflected in his tenure as a visiting fellow at esteemed institutions, including Wolfson and Pembroke College, Cambridge, St. Antony’s College, Oxford, Korean Development Institute/Seoul, FU Berlin, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) Berlin, and the Centre for European Studies (CES) Harvard University.

Beyond academia, Professor Yilmaz has actively contributed to shaping policy and advising governments. He served as the Chief Advisor to the Ministry of State for European Union Affairs in Ankara from 1997 to 2002.

Professor Yilmaz’s latest endeavour is a compelling research project titled “Global Interest and Competition in the Asia-Indo-Pacific Region.” Commencing in August 2023, this project is funded by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung. It seeks to explore the economic potential of the RCEP member countries and India (RCEP+I), analysing trade and investment relations between China, the U.S., and the European Union/Germany in the Indo-Pacific region. The research aims to identify comparative advantages and benefits among these economic powers, offering predictions and insights into the region’s future economic and political landscape. With Professor Bahri Yilmaz’s extensive academic background and dedication to research, CEAC is poised to make significant contributions to the field of Economics and global policy analysis.
